Haha. It’s true. I don’t understand how people keep trying to make Edwards’ affair about McCain. Yes, McCain had an affair 30 years ago but that seems like pretty old news to me.

"Keep in mind that your child’s tantrum is nobody’s business but yours. Many kids this..."

“Keep in mind that your child’s tantrum is nobody’s business but yours. Many kids this age still have tantrums, and some of them are bound to happen in public. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad parent, only that you’re the parent of a preschooler. People may be looking at you, but it’s very possible that they’re feeling sympathetic, not critical. Regardless of any looks you get, remember that your child doesn’t understand your embarrassment. Public tantrums aren’t meant to humiliate you, so treat your child the same as you would if the tantrum happened at home.”

-
Judith Hudson, developmental psychologist

Good advice for anybody dealing with a toddler or preschooler. Public tantrums and misbehavior are somehow much more embarrassing and difficult to deal with. I think it is the know-it-all judgementalism that other people can sometimes have. Funny thing is that most of the people I know who judged other people’s parenting skills stopped doing it when they became parents themselves.

My son turned 4 last month so we don’t deal with as many tantrums these days. In my opinion…just like the experts say…being calm and consistent with consequences makes a big difference in calming down children and teaching them to behave appropriately. But it doesn’t happen overnight! Patience and consistency matter.

"How are you? It’s not that we don’t care, it’s that we’re terrified that someone will actually break down and tell us. Everyone I know is in some kind of pain. Everyone. How do you like them apples? And so, another reason to lie, because we’ve all agreed not to tell the truth to each other, not about that. Someone put their hand in my heart and they didn’t take it back out.”

- Richard Siken (via align)

Make Your Own Laundry Soap

Make Your Own Laundry Soap

Study: Antibodies from 1918 Flu Prove Immune System has Steel-Trap Memory

Study: Antibodies from 1918 Flu Prove Immune System has Steel-Trap Memory

Tumblelog search

Tumblelog search

One Can of Red Bull May Increase Risk of Heart Damage, Study Says

One Can of Red Bull May Increase Risk of Heart Damage, Study Says

(via tylercoates)

So sad.

I saw the smoke on the way to work yesterday. Everyone I know has been talking about it and praying for the victims and their families. So tragic. Can’t imagine what they are going through. :(

"If people keep focusing so much on documenting their life on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, etc., when..."

“If people keep focusing so much on documenting their life on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, etc., when will they have time to actually live it?”

-
warm thoughts and all, but what of the people who document their life via paper? pen? scrapbook? photograph? video?

(via karmcity + warmgun + scout)
(via nikography)

I’m late to the reblogging party on this one but…there is a point to this. But then again documenting your life sometimes adds meaning or makes you appreciate the small details in way you might not have otherwise. Everything in moderation I guess.

butterflyeffect:

Could you please stop being such a fuck up with your economy?

Ditto from a Canadian.

Hey, economy’s fine for me. Bought a house and got a new job with a 27% raise. What recession?? Now if only the dollar would do a bit better, maybe I could travel to Europe…

We’ve felt the consequences of having a global economy here in the USA before too. I’m with vb on this one: I live here and things haven’t changed negatively at all for me. We have an affordable house we own and good jobs and healthcare. Life’s good. I’m sick of America being some kind of global scapegoat. Duh, things aren’t perfect here, but I’m pretty sure they aren’t perfect everywhere else either.

"If you want your tumblelog to have a larger, more general audience of people who aren’t necessarily..."

“If you want your tumblelog to have a larger, more general audience of people who aren’t necessarily interested in seeing so much of your activity, you bring great value by showing editorial restraint.”

- Marco on why Tumblr shouldn’t just be a content aggregator.

Six Weeks

amwelles:

I’m six weeks pregnant now. The only thing about telling everyone right away is it makes it feel like you are pregnant forever! Ha ha. But it is fun reading up on my tiny new baby. He/she has a heart beat and will be able to move his/her legs and arms by the end of this week.

Congrats and stuff! I never want my own kids, but it’s good to know that others do… because otherwise the population would kinda die out. :/
